On the blog today, we’d like to introduce you to Vapor Ministries … another amazing organization that you can support through RaiseUp. (If you’re new to RaiseUp, read What is RaiseUp to see how you can support a cause.)

They do such a great job of explaining who they are and what they do, let’s dive right in.

RaiseUp – Hello! Can you give us a quick explanation of Vapor Ministries?

Vapor Ministries – We aim to establish sustainable centers for alleviating poverty and multiplying disciples in third-world environments.

We have five centers operating at this time, 2 in the slums in Kenya, 1 in Togo in West Africa and 2 in Haiti. We hope to break ground on our 6th center this fall.

RaiseUp – When people donate or raise funds for Vapor, what do the funds go toward?

Vapor Ministries – To the work of poverty alleviation in the form of clean water, critical care grants, nutritional improvement, and disease prevention. Funds also go to the work of multiplying disciples through our discipleship sports leagues, community outreach, and developing and equipping staff to reach their communities.

RaiseUp Can you share a highlight that you’ve experienced while working with Vapor?

Vapor Ministries – It is hard to pick just one. We’ve seen lives saved through our critical care grants, both in funding several emergency surgeries and providing needed (but unaffordable) medicines.

Dignity restored as people are given an opportunity to work and provide for their own families.

Children who could not otherwise have gone to school graduating with honors and receiving university scholarships, helping to break the cycle of poverty.

RaiseUp – I completely understand why it would be difficult to pick just one and I have a feeling that this is just a small number of the things you see on a regular basis!

RaiseUp – Is there anything you can share to help us understand the severity of poverty?

Vapor Ministries – Poverty and spiritual darkness are rampant in the areas we serve (Kenya, West Africa and Haiti). People are dying from preventable causes and many to a Christ-less eternity. The need can seem overwhelming, but the call of Christ is clear. God calls us to go and make disciples and we strive to do that with the urgency of eternity in mind.

RaiseUp – “People are dying from preventable causes and many to a Christ- less eternity” … what a scary thought. Thank the Lord for all of the work you are doing!

RaiseUp – Help us understand the impact you have been able to make already?

Vapor Ministries – Thousands of children are hearing the gospel and being discipled on a regular basis. Almost 325 children are receiving educational sponsorships. Because of the clean water now available from the deep water well at our center in Dilaire, Haiti, the incidence of cholera has decreased to the point that the cholera clinic (which had been there) has closed.

RaiseUp – Wow, talk about an impact! It is obvious that clean water is making a large, tangible impact. I can just imagine the impact that sharing the gospel is making for all of those children and those they will come in contact with throughout their life.

RaiseUp – What else can people do to help Vapor?

Vapor Ministries – Pray! We do not take on any debt to run this ministry and are completely reliant on the Lord to provide the funds needed.

We also invite people to come see our centers first hand on a Vapor trip – to come alongside the local staff on the ground, working with them and encouraging them.

RaiseUp – Thank you so much for sharing. For those reading, you can learn more about their trips and getting involved here.

We love hearing from the heart of organizations! God is absolutely working through Vapor Ministries and we encourage everyone to learn more at VaporMinistries.org.
